Whatever your job, expect ups and downs. Why? Because trends in television are short lived. One day reality television is all the buzz and the next day it's dramas, dramas, dramas!

Most likely you'll end up focusing your ambitions into one genre of television. For instance, you'll work your way into the production office at a sitcom and stay with that producer for years moving from studio to studio and show to show with that production team. Chances are the shows you work on won't last longer than a season or two and that's considered stable work!

And what happens when the sitcom genre isn't hot, when game shows are all the rage? You could end up going long periods (although hopefully they'll be shorter) of time without work. So, save up for those rainy days. Keep your resume updated and continue making and maintaining contacts in the business.

The viewer is the almighty determining factor as to which shows make the cut and become a part of television history. So keep in mind that your talents and determination shouldn't be rattled if the show you are on doesn't get a back nine or second season order. Don't let your show getting cancelled make your question your talent. Be aware of trends in television and be versatile enough that your talents can be showcased in whichever genre is making the ratings.
